Inspiration

Why SIA?

Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. is a Latina-based sorority devoted to serving our community while fostering a sense of pride and respect in our heritage. The sorority was founded on September 29, 1990, by thirteen inspiring young women from four different schools in the state of New York: SUNY Albany, SUNY Stony Brook, SUNY New Paltz, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. These diverse group of women came together with the goal of creating an organization that would help their communities, unite women and promote scholarship.

Since its inception in 1990, our organization has expanded outside of the State of New York and has chartered chapters in the states of New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan, Texas and California. 26 years forward, we continue to dedicate ourselves to service, academic excellence and professional development.

Our Commitment

Individualism

Our organization prides itself on valuing the individualism of our members. We feel that each person brings her unique strengths and viewpoints to the organization. United by our common goals we use one another's strengths to propel our organization forward.

Enhancement of the Community

The driving force behind our organization is an intense desire to help our communities. For some women, SIA is a support system to help them reach their philanthropic goals, and for others, SIA is an avenue for them to become more involved in community service projects. We recruit strong, smart, compassionate women who want to make a difference and assist in our endeavors.

Networking

We pride ourselves in our professionalism and that of our members. Networking is a huge benefit of joining a national sorority. As a member, you have access to a broader group of professional women as well as the opportunity to meet and network with members of other Greek Lettered Organizations.
